Virginia Lee Cooper

April 25, 1939 — March 12, 2020

Virginia Lee Cooper was born in Cuthbert, GA on April 25, 1939 to the late Charlie and Georgia Rogers Cooper. Virginia proclaimed her faith at an early age and joined the Mount Cilla AME Church in Carnegie, GA. She was baptized at the Nazareth Baptist Church in Columbus, GA, where she served on the senior usher board, the bulletin board committee, the Starlight Mission and Vacation bible school. Upon returning to Cuthbert, GA, Virginia joined the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as treasurer of the committee, a member of the kitchen committee and the Antioch Mission. “Jap,” as she was affectionately called, graduated from the Randolph County Training School in 1958. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master Degree in Early Childhood Education from Tuskegee Institute (University). Virginia taught school in Columbia, SC, Cordele, GA and Columbus, GA. She retired from the Muscogee County School District after teaching for thirty-seven years. She was a member of the Randolph County Retired Educators Association. Virginia was very free hearted, and was always trying to help someone. She enjoyed sewing, working in her yard and gardening. Most of all, she loved using her computer to make greeting cards and shop at Walmart.com and QVC.com. Other than her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by a brother, Willie A Cooper; three sisters, Gullie Mae Hatten, Lena Mae Cooper and Loretha Wilson. She leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Lizzie Mae Holifield of Cuthbert, GA; her brother, John L. Cooper (Pastina) of Crestview, FL; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, friends and her adopted family
