Susie Lee Wilson, born Susie Lee Grooms on June 11, 1927, in Randolph County, has peacefully passed away on March 21, 2024, at Joe-Anne Burgin Health Rehabilitation in Cuthbert, GA. She was a cherished member of the community, known for her humble nature and often referred to as the neighborhood grandmother.
Susie's life was marked by dedication and service. She was a lifelong member of Friendship Chapter #137 Order of the Eastern Star and served diligently on the Point of Martha. Her commitment to this organization reflected her selflessness and deep rooted values.
In her formative years, Susie received her education in the Randolph County School System. She also found solace and community in Pleasant Grove AME Church, where her faith guided her throughout her life’s journey.
Family was paramount to Susie, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and care. She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Willie Sim Wilson, as well as her parents Johnny and Lucy Grooms. She is also preceded in death by her brother Cornelius Grooms, sisters Lizzie Hope and Julia Burks, her daughters Virginia W. Clark and Helen Hightower, along with her son Robert Hightower.
Susie will be dearly missed by her surviving family members: Bertha (Lester) Harmon of Benevolence, GA, Willie James (Barbara), Solomon, Samuel, and Larry, all of Cuthbert, GA , Royzell (Carolyn) of Georgetown, GA, Leon (Cara) Wilson of Winter Haven, FL, and Jeanette Tolbert (God-daughter), twenty grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. There lives have been enriched by Susie’s presence and guidance.
Susie Lee Wilson's departure from this world has left a void in the hearts of those who knew her. However, her spirit of kindness and compassion will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her warmth.
May she rest in eternal peace.
