Pauline Shorter Bowman was born on April 30, 1930, in Randolph County, Georgia. She departed this life on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at the Joann Burgin Nursing Home in Cuthbert, Georgia.
Pauline was the third of ten children of the late Randall Patterson Shorter and Maggie Gertude Carter Shorter.
She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. At the age of 17, she left Cuthbert heading to Florida, where she married M.C. Cole. During their marriage they also resided in Cambridge, MD, then in Elizabeth, NJ. She remained in Elizabeth and later married Robert Bowman.
During her residency in Elizabeth, she worked for Singer Company. She was also a skilled home health aide before retiring. After she retired, she returned to Cuthbert to care for her aging father until his passing in 2007. Upon her return to Cuthbert, she, once again, became an active member of Pleasant Hill until her health began to decline.
Pauline lived a full life connected to family members and numerous friends stretched across the country.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Morris Shorter, Theodore Shorter, and Ferron Shorter.
She is survived by three sisters, Florine Mitchner of New Britain, CT, Essie Lancaster and Elizabeth (William) Houston, both of Easton, PA; three brothers, Randall, Jr. (Margaret) Shorter and Willie (Margaret) Shorter, both of New Britain, and Booker (Millie) of Donaldsonville, GA; thirty-six nieces and nephews, fifty-six great nieces and nephews, twenty-three great-great nieces and nephews; a host of other relatives and friends.
She is celebrated by family and friends forever grateful for sharing in her life.
