Mr. Nathaniel Smith, Sr. was born October 1, 1948 to the late Jessie Pittman and Maebell Jackson Gilbert. He was born and reared in the Randolph County area of Shellman, Georgia. Later in his early years he resided in Columbus, Georgia, where he established and operated a number of businesses. He worked hard to provide for his family, friends, community and anyone who came to him for assistance. He was a great inspiration to many and the life that he lived is still viewed as a legacy and inspiration to the younger generation. His never dying love for his children will always carry the honor deserving of a beloved father who provided and protected his family at all cost.

Nathaniel Smith touched the life of many and was respected and honored by many. As a father, he was on task, as a friend, he was loyal, as a man he was REAL. He fought through sickness for many years. He held on until the end. Giving up wasn ’t an option, because quitting didn ’t register with him. He knew the Lord and trusted in His care. He persevered through trials and tribulations and fought until his last day.
Precious memories will be left to his lift -time companion, Clara Tolbert; his children, Jonnie (Geneva) General, Nathaniel Smith, Jr, Marvin Smith, Natishia Butts, Reginald (Kenesha Mabry) Smith, Reggie (Angel Dorsey) Smith, Savontae Hubbard, Ayeshia Cokes, Victoria Smith; siblings, Nora (Ernest) Holmes, Mary (Ronnie) Hicks, Shirley (Coefield) Forte, Hilda (J. L.) Hawkins, Bobby (Lillie) Gilbert, Annie Will (Willie) Freeman, Bobby Walden, James Walden, Jonnie Walden, Lonnie Walden, Ulysses Walden, Margret Walden, Georgia Walden, Ann Walden, Joanne Walden, Josephine (Clifford) McClainey; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Nathaniel was predeceased by children, Deramus Coleman, Victoria Smith, Carolyn Smith, Sheila Smith, Alrahiem Tolbert; siblings, Jimmie Walden, Ulysee Walden, Michael Walden, Marlene Walden, Mozell Smith, Jimmy (Alberta) Smith.
