Mary Ellen Jackson, affectionately known as “Ellen” was born in Edison, Georgia, May 8, 1949 to the late Walter C. and Hattie Lee Jackson. She was preceded in death by six sisters: Gladys Whitehurst, Beatrice Jackson, Daisy Williams, Martha Jackson and Veronica Dale; one brother, Walter Jackson, Jr; a nephew, Johnny Williams, Jr and a niece, Angelina Dale. On August 2, 2024, Ellen heard the voice of the Lord saying: “Well done my child, you have fought a good fight and finished your course.”
She was educated in the Calhoun County School System. Ellen loved the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was a member of Davis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully as an Usher until her health declined.
Mary Ellen was a woman that loved everyone she met and made sure that she kept everyone informed of what was going on around her. To know her was to love her.
As Ellen took wings, she left many to celebrate her life: Four brothers, Andrew L. (Minnie) Jackson of Dawson, GA, Robert L. (Ann) Jackson of Atlanta, GA, Freddie L. (Mary Alice) Jackson of Albany, GA, and David L. Jackson of Fayetteville, NC; Nieces and Nephews that she raised as her own: Yulanda Hatcher, Shawnese Leonard, David Hamm Jr, Andrew Jackson, Brandie Sanders, Brandon Jackson, Tanika Glover, Shamala Hall, Anna Dale and Asia Dent; Three uncles, Eddie Coleman and David Coleman of Las Vegas, NV, William Coleman of Dallas, GA; Several close friends, Mary Jo Oliver, Ruby Jean Shingles, Ann Cook, Sarah Mulkey, Christine Waters, Betty Blackmon and Dicey Burkes; a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, who will miss her dearly.
