Idella Martin

Idella Martin, affectionately known as “Bay,” passed away on October 3, 2024, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia, at the age of 82. Born on January 1, 1942, in Cuthbert, Georgia, Idella dedicated her life to her family and community, leaving a legacy of love and togetherness. 

Idella’s educational journey began at Randolph County Training School in Cuthbert, Georgia, where she laid the foundation for a life filled with knowledge and compassion. Known for her warm spirit, she had an immense passion for cooking and took great pleasure in entertaining friends and family who would stop by her home. Her hospitality created a welcoming atmosphere, and many cherished the time spent in her company, often gathered around her dining table filled with delicious home-cooked meals.

 Idella leaves behind a beloved family, including her sonin-law, Larry Jackson Sr; her granddaughters, Melissa Jackson of Dothan, AL, Ericka Grant of Panama City, FL, Emma Martin-Foster of Murfreesboro, TN, and Mayolena Jackson of Cuthbert, GA; and her grandson, Larry Joe Jackson Jr of Cuthbert, GA; a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Each of them carries forward the values and memories that she instilled in them throughout her life. 

She is preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Shelly Jackson; her son, Dennis Martin; her sisters, Ruby L. Daniels and Bertha Robinson; and her beloved grandchildren, Carla and Paula Jackson. These family members undoubtedly shaped who Idella was and whom she loved dearly. 

Idella Martin will be remembered not only for her culinary skills, but also for the love and joy she generously shared with those around her. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends, treasured for the lasting impact she made in their lives.
