Georgeena Bernadette (Jenkins) Bailey was born January 1, 1945 in Augusta, Georgia, to Frank and Bertha Butts Jenkins. She was the fourth of five children. She passed away June 7, 2017 at her residence in Albany, Georgia. Georgeena graduated from Lucy C. Laney High School in 1962. On November 29, 1969, she married Robert Lee Bailey in Newark, New Jersey. Georgeena had several jobs which included Food Plus Vitamin Lab, Bates Manufactors, and General Electric Company. However, it was her love for nursing that she held most dear. In 1975 she was employed as a certified nurse’s assistant at Newark Extended Health. After several years of service she obtained employment at the Essex County Hospital Center formerly known as “Over Brook Psychiatric Hospital” where she retired after 18yrs. While employed she completed the Essex County Hospital Center Nursing Program, graduating number two in her class. She was later offered a scholarship to Upsala College Nursing Program in East Orange, NJ. and Bloomfield College in Bloomfield, NJ. Georgeena accepted the Lord at a young age. She was baptized, received first Holy Communion, and was confirmed at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. She joined St. Teresa’s Parish after moving to Albany, Georgia, which she enjoyed dearly. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great nieces in the summer. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 47 years, and two siblings: sister Bertha Jeanelle Borum and brother, LeRoy Williams (Lorraine). She is survived by her son, Robert LaVert Bailey of Irvington, New Jersey; daughter, Dr. Kimberly Deneen Shamberger of Jackson, New Jersey; three grandchildren, Marqueez Tariq Wright of Orlando, Florida; LaTascia Renee Bailey and Rev. William Edward Richburg, both of Sumter, South Carolina; one great-granddaughter, MaKenzie Noelle Bailey of Sumter, South Carolina; two brothers, Frank Winfield Jenkins (Mary) of Evan, Georgia and John Arthur Jenkins (Yvonne) of Las Vegas, Nevada; five sisters-in-law, Louise B. Webb of Albany, Georgia, Mary Evelyn Jenkins of El-Paso, Texas, Mary D. Golden of Detroit, Michigan, Maxine Bailey of East Orange, New Jersey, and Leeoma W. Bailey of Cuthbert, Georgia; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
