A time to be born:On November 4, 1947 in Cuthbert (Randolph County) Georgia, God blessed the late Mr. J. D. and Mrs. Francis Lee Smith with a son who they named Charlie Nelson Smith. A time to love:Charlie was loved by his parents who he deeply loved, respected, and admired. He was educated in the Randolph County Public School System where he graduated from Henderson High School. He then served in the United States Air Force and later graduated from the Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta, Georgia. He went on to receive his National State Board Certification and Embalming License. A time to serve:Growing up Charlie joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church as a youth and attended many years as an adult. He was taught the love of God and the value of worship and service. A time to work:Throughout his life he worked as the accounts payable clerk at the U.S. Department of Education in Atlanta, Georgia. Associate office manager at the Martin Luther King Memorial Chapel Inc. in Albany, Georgia and as the assistant embalmer and funeral director at People Funeral Home in Tuskegee, Alabama. A time to pray:In his youth and early adult years Charlie enjoyed life singing and playing in a local band. He enjoyed life and loved to talk and socialize with everyone that he came in contact with. A time to die:Early Sunday morning, the 8th day of January 2017 while being comforted in the care of Columbus Specialty Hospital in Columbus, Georgia it was then that Charlie responded to God’s call from his earthly home and peacefully entered into eternal rest.
