Robert “Bob” Lee Bailey was born October 28, 1934 in Cuthbert, Georgia, to Paul and Lillie Bell Solomon Bailey. He passed away on Friday, February 26, 2016, at his residence.Robert graduated from Randolph County Training School in 1953. He enlisted in the U. S. Army on January 24, 1955. On November 29, 1969, he married Georgeena B. Jenkins in Newark, New Jersey. Robert was a proud Detention Officer for the Essex County Youth House in Newark, and retired after 25 years of service with the department. Before his employment with the Essex County Youth House, he worked at Clifton Clothing Company, Two Guys Department Store, General Electric Co., and with Nelson Detective Agency, all in New Jersey. In his retirement, he enjoyed working for the Dougherty County School System (Albany) as a Crossing Guard.Robert enjoyed being a member of the Free Masons in New Jersey. In retirement he joined the American Legion Post 512 in Albany where he spent a majority of time volunteering and serving the community. He also loved spending summers with his grandchildren and great nieces.In his youth Robert was a member of Payne Chapel AME Church in Cuthbert. He joined First Baptist Church in Nutley, New Jersey, with Pastor Lawrence Roberts. After retirement he and his wife moved to Albany where he joined Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church, which he was passionately fond of.Robert was the youngest of nine children. He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings: brothers Paul Bailey, Jr., Clifford J. Bailey, Sr., W. Christopher Bailey, and Thomas J. Bailey, Sr.; and sisters Doris M. Bailey and Lila Bailey Sandlin. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Georgeena Bailey of Albany, Georgia; son, Robert LaVert Bailey of Irvington, New Jersey; daughter, Kimberly Deneen Shamberger of Jackson, New Jersey; three grandchildren, Marqueez Tariq Wright of Orlando, Florida; LaTascia Renee Bailey and William Edward Richburg, both of Sumter, South Carolina; three sisters, Louise B. Webb of Albany, Mary D. Golden of Detroit, Michigan, and Louise B. Davis of Cuthbert; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Bailey of Atlanta, and Leeoma W. Bailey of Cuthbert; three brothers-in-law, Leroy Williams of Raleigh, NC, Frank Winfield Jenkins of Evans, and John Arthur Jenkins of Las Vegas, NV; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
