A towering figure,the oldest homegrown resident of Clay County,Minister Lucille Barnes-Tinsley Avery was born October 29, 1914 in Morris, Georgia. She was the daughter of George "Pomp" Washington and Mamie Harris Barnes. She was called by the Angels on Friday, October 4, 2013 from St. Francis Hospital, Columbus, Georgia.Mrs. Avery was a member of the Midway Baptist Church in her early years. There, she was a missionary and a member of the choir. Later in her Christian walk she joined the Springfield Baptist Church and continued to serve faithfully until her health failed. She was a domestic worker and a culinary artist. She served faithfully in the Ministry of her faith. Minister Avery was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Ralph Tinsley and Peter Avery (Deceased). She was preceded in death by brothers, Willie Andrew Barnes, Oscar Barnes, Jessie Barnes, Dea. George Will Barnes and Dea. Pomp Barnes; sisters, Ollie Davenport, Ida Williams, Rosa Kendrick, Mamie Thomas, Izora Lane and Evelyn Henry; a son, Roosevelt Tinsely; a daughter, Beatrice Tinsley; a son-law, Elder Joseph C. Price; a granddaughter, Anita Smith and grandson, Willie Avery, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories to five generations including three sons, Elder Wallace (Debra) Tinsley of Dothan, Alabama, Ralph (Gwen) Tinsley of Queens, New York and Willie (Gussie) Avery of Abbeyville, Alabama; three daughters, Sarah (Wendell) Allen of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Johnnie Lucille Avery of Ft. Gaines, Georgia and Bishop Pamyla Price of Columbus, Georgia; a sister, Pattie James Brown of Chattanooga, Tennessee; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
